Area-boost Romsås giga-map

Area-boost Romsås Giga-map

This is a snapshot systems map of the beginning of the area boost project carried out by Oslo council, bydel Grorud, in Romsås. It maps the processes leading to its inception, the bureaucracy and people involved in the process and the location of the projects that it is compromised of. It also maps the social desires, needs and motivations of the population.

The map was the result of 30+ interviews with people working within the system at different levels and with different perspectives as well as thorough research (Names have been removed before publication). Since the maps completion it has already been decided to relocate the old peoples home away from the centre.

The map can be used as a tool to allow those in government to see how the project is run and highlight areas of weak communication, or in need of more cooperation so that issues can be dealt with in the higher levels in the system. It could also function as a guide for current and new employees to navigate and understand the systems they work within and find the correct people to work with on a project.

Towards the public the map could help to communicate both what the local government is doing, but also why things aren’t fixed as quickly as people might expect. Visualising the complexity of the problems and enabling people to find ways in which they can contribute to solve problems and raise awareness.
